Eugene Byrne
was born in Waterford in Ireland and grew up in Burnham on-Sea.
He also lived for a year in Yeovil, two years in Lancaster and a
year in Morecambe. Finding that none of these exotic faraway places
gave him the sophisticated environment he craved, he decided to
settle in Bristol after seeing a mummy being dissected live on CCTV
while passing the City Museum.
His first job
in Bristol was as a roadsweeper, but since this was too much like
hard work he decided to become a freelance journalist instead. He
is also Deputy Editor of Venue, Bristol and Bath's what's on magazine.
In the 1990s he started making up stories and has published several
short stories and two science fiction (-ish) novels, ThiGMOO (Earthlight,
1999) and Things Unborn (Earthlight 2001) as well as co-writing
Back in the USSA (Mark Ziesing Books, USA, 1997) with his old pal
Kim Newman.
Eugene is married
with two children and lives in repressed and slightly desperate
suburban respectability. His hobbies include hanging around secondhand
bookshops and having arguments in public houses. He does all his
own ironing and drove a Skoda long before it was fashionable.
