Eugene Byrne

Eugene Byrne was born in Waterford in Ireland and grew up in Burnham on-Sea. He also lived for a year in Yeovil, two years in Lancaster and a year in Morecambe. Finding that none of these exotic faraway places gave him the sophisticated environment he craved, he decided to settle in Bristol after seeing a mummy being dissected live on CCTV while passing the City Museum.

His first job in Bristol was as a roadsweeper, but since this was too much like hard work he decided to become a freelance journalist instead. He is also Deputy Editor of Venue, Bristol and Bath's what's on magazine. In the 1990s he started making up stories and has published several short stories and two science fiction (-ish) novels, ThiGMOO (Earthlight, 1999) and Things Unborn (Earthlight 2001) as well as co-writing Back in the USSA (Mark Ziesing Books, USA, 1997) with his old pal Kim Newman.

Eugene is married with two children and lives in repressed and slightly desperate suburban respectability. His hobbies include hanging around secondhand bookshops and having arguments in public houses. He does all his own ironing and drove a Skoda long before it was fashionable.

Simon Gurr

Simon Gurr was born in the seaside town of Eastbourne. He stayed there until a place at Bristol Polytechnic tore him from a promising career in ice cream retail. With no sea, only a narrow thing called a river, Bristol disorientated the lad but he soon found there was more to life than gallon tins of Mr Whippy.

After 3 years studying illustration, Simon made a break for the south coast again under the pretext of an MA at Brighton University. However he was quickly lured back by the charms of a young lady whom he later married.

In between pining for the chalk cliffs, Simon draws and writes comics and produces web games, animation and illustrations for education. He insists he never thought St. Vincent's Rock was about souvenir confectionery sticks.
